Remembering Gandhi (1869 - 1948) ...
A pioneer of Satyagraha, or resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience — a philosophy firmly founded upon Ahimsa, or
total nonviolence — Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
His birthday, 2nd October, is celebrated in India as Gandhi Jayanthi, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day
The International Day is an occasion to "disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness". The resolution reaffirms "the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence" and the desire "to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence".
Nonviolence is the essence of all religions
"A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people."
