Remembering my Parents -

This portrait of my parents was taken by me about 29 years back.
I wanted to capture my father and mother with a smile. This photo was taken now, from an old photo which was laminated on a different medium.
My father popularly known as P.K. Pillai was one of the powerful personalities in our community. He lost his father at a very early age and he was more of a self-made person. Our family then was only into agriculture, and owned fertile lands in our village and was considered to be a well to do upper middle class family. It was a wonderful joint family both my father and my Periyappa - his elder brother - with their families and children lived together for a pretty long years. They both were well known for their love and affection to each other in our village - பாசம்.
My father was keen that I was given the best education possible, for he could not pursue higher education. It was his dream that I should become an Engineer, so did I. He made special efforts that a separate residential establishment was setup for the sake of my education at Sirkazhi, as hostel facilities were not available those days. Of course few more from our relative families were also benefitted by this facility then. Our village had the privilege of having - the first Engineering graduate (me !!!), first Medical graduate (my brother-in-law), the first lawyer (my cousin), the first woman Graduate in Science (my youngest sister) and so on ... Of course many more family members from our village took up higher studies who are now Doctors, Engineers, Advocates, Teachers etc., and are well placed now across the globe. I understand that the first Professors in Economics and Zoology from our village were also encouraged and guided by my father.
We are five - two brothers and three sisters. By the grace of God, four of us -me,Rajam,Vasuki and Selvi are settled in Chennai, while my brother Thiyagu, a leading Advocate, is busy with his practice in Sirkazhi, our home town. My parents after shifting from village lived in our newly built house at Sirkazhi. My father was proud of his children and grand children - Sunder being one of his most favourite ...
My father was very loving and affectionate to us. He was a noble person with a loving heart and lot of courage and a born leader. He stood for right values, right people and right things in life and was loved and respected by all. He was almost an undisputed leader of our village till his end.
He was once a leading businessman dealing in Paddy and Rice in our region. He was well respected for his honesty, courage, generosity, wisdom and other good values. My mother is so much known for her Love and affection to all. She respected my father so much so, that whatever told by my father was final. Some words in Tamil from a Tamil film - A son's touching words ...

God has been very kind to me that I was their eldest son, who stood with them all along good and bad, low and high
Being modest, perhaps I am understating about my father and his values.

Thanks for your visit and your kind comments. I sincerely appreciate your visits :)
I love photography and I enjoy photography.
And I am happy to be part of this wonderful Aminus3 Community ...
