Queen of Music

Posted by Sam (Chennai, India) on 25 November 2015 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

MS Subbulakshmin affectionately called as "Nightingale of India" and "Queen of Music" was a legend in classical
Indian music (1916-2004) ...

She was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. She is the first Indian musician to receive the Ramon Magsaysay award, often considered Asia's Nobel Prize, in 1974 with the citation reading "Exacting purists acknowledge Srimati M. S. Subbulakshmi as the leading exponent of classical and semi-classical songs in the carnatic tradition
of South India."
Saw this graceful portrait of MS in The Hindu Tamil Paper recently ...
I changed the earlier image with this colour version ...
